With 29 years of coaching experience, Coach Stephanie brings a lifelong passion for swimming and athlete development to the pool deck. She first learned to swim at Alta Pool and went on to compete for four years at WHS before continuing her collegiate career at Cal Poly.
While swimming at Cal Poly, she earned Academic All-American and All-American honors and became a Division II National Champion in the 200 Backstroke — an achievement that reflects both her work ethic and dedication to excellence.
In addition to coaching, she is also a teacher, working with children every day and bringing that same patience, structure, and encouragement to her swimmers.
Coaching Philosophy & Style
Coach Stephanie believes in building strong foundations first — prioritizing stroke technique before focusing on speed and endurance. She values getting to know the person before the athlete and works to create an atmosphere centered on teamwork, fun, and continuous improvement.
What she enjoys most about coaching is using what she learned as a competitive swimmer to help athletes achieve their goals — whether that means earning a best time or making a championship roster. Seeing the joy and pride on her swimmers’ faces is what makes it all worthwhile.
She understands that motivation looks different at every age and skill level. For younger swimmers, she emphasizes creating a safe and playful environment where friendships can grow. For older athletes, she introduces variety and challenge in workouts while continuing to foster a culture where swimmers feel supported in taking risks and pushing themselves.
Her goal is for swimmers to leave the program with more than just faster times. She hopes they carry with them:
- A deep appreciation for teamwork — in sport and in life
- A strong sense of responsibility and work ethic
- A commitment to sportsmanship and inclusivity
She firmly believes that the whole team is greater than the individual.

Coach Erin has been coaching for 14 years, beginning as a volunteer while earning community service hours in high school, where she worked with the 6 & Under swimmers. What started as volunteer hours quickly turned into a long-term passion for developing young athletes.
Erin swam competitively with the Stingrays beginning at age 8 and continued her swimming career through the collegiate level at Wittenberg University. Her lifelong connection to the sport gives her a deep understanding of both the athlete experience and team culture.
In addition to swimming, she played water polo in high school and currently works as a middle school science teacher — bringing patience, energy, and a love of learning to both the classroom and the pool deck.
Coaching Philosophy & Style
Coach Erin loves seeing her swimmers improve their strokes, drop time, and celebrate best times — and of course, she’s also a big fan of team traditions like Nacho Day!
Her coaching philosophy centers on challenging swimmers to “beat the clock” while building life skills that extend beyond the pool. She believes swimming teaches resilience, discipline, and perseverance.
Motivating swimmers looks different for each individual. Erin takes the time to understand what drives each athlete — whether it’s hitting a personal best, breaking a record, contributing to a relay, or mastering a specific event. She knows motivation can even vary by race, and she works to connect with swimmers on a personal level to help them perform their best.
Beyond technique and race strategy, she hopes swimmers walk away with:
- A belief that hard work truly pays off
- Lifelong friendships and memories
- An appreciation for the little things — even staring at the line at the bottom of the pool
Many of her own Stingray teammates are still close friends today, and she hopes her swimmers build those same lasting connections.
